Quick History of Apache Junction Arizona.
Historically, Apache Junction is built around ancient canyon pathways of the Apache Indians. Today's Apache Trail follow next to such ancient trails used by the Native Apaches. The trail extends past Canyon Lake as it turns to dirt roads through cliff edges as it makes its way to Apache Lake and eventually to Roosevelt Lake. Don't miss this scenic drive in the spring when desert wildflowers are in bloom.
According to legend, somewhere within the Superstition Mountains, the Lost Dutchman's Gold Mine still lies hidden. The story goes that in 1840 the Peralta Family developed a rich gold mine and the mine was rediscovered by Jacob Waltz, The "Lost Dutchman". Waltz died in 1891 without ever revealing where the mine was hidden from view. He once boasted that the mine was so rich that the gold could be cut with a knife. To this today, thousands still trek through the hills looking for the lost riches.
