Phoenix is now the fifth largest metropolitan city in America and its Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport is rated the fifth busiest airport in the entire world. Phoenix, Still Among The Nation's Fastest Growing Cities.
There are 254 cities in America that have a population of 100,000 or more. Arizona claims nine of those of which eight are in the Greater Phoenix area. The following shows the 2005 population of Phoenix area cities and their percentage population growth from 2000 to 2005.
1. Phoenix: 1,461,000 (10.2% growth)
2. Mesa: 442,780 (10.3% growth)
3. Glendale: 239,435 ((8.5% growth)
4. Chandler: 234,939 (30.6% growth)
5. Scottsdale: 226,013 ((10.7% growth)
6. Gilbert: 173,989 (54.6% growth)
7. Tempe: 161,143 ((1.6% growth)
8. Peoria: 138,200 (24.8% growth)
Combined, Greater Phoenix grew by over 39% from about 2.6 million in1995 to 3.7million in 2005 well exceeding the overall US growth rate of 12% and it is interesting to note that the state of Arizona was the second fastest growing state during that period right behind Nevada and ahead of Florida. The projected population of Metroploitan Phoenix in 2010 is over 4,200,000.
The Phoenix Real Estate Market.
Along with its rapid growth, real estate in Phoenix has consistently been among the hottest housing real estate markets for over five decades. The Phoenix residential building industry has outpacednearly every other metropolitan city in the country during 2005, setting records for building permits and homes sold. During 2005 almost 111,000 homes were sold in the Greater Phoenix area.
